While making a silent retreat I had time to reflect and relax by observing nature. After a snowstorm the brilliant sun came out. The snow sparkled like diamonds.
I remembered a song I had written years ago when I had made a silent retreat in the Black Hills. I called it “Diamonds in her Wake”
When the Spirit dances across the snow
She leaves sparkling diamonds in her wake.
When the Spirit dances across the snow
She leaves sparkling diamonds in her wake.
Her presence melts and soothes the cold, hard heart,
With the quiet crystal rays of light.
Her golden rays play along the snow-framed creek
Shadow-dancing as they run.
As She lingers near the clear running stream,
Glistening green plants shining through
Squirrels chatter from their hollow logs,
Heads peeking out and then they scamper.
Silent gray fog edges to Crow Peak
Her glittering presence keeps it out.
Clouds gently float across the Sacred Hills,
Crow Peak, the Spirit’s earthly home.
Hawks and eagles flying high in the wind
To meet Her dancing in the sky
As She changes day into night
Changing gold to silver with the wind.
When the Spirit dances across the snow
She leaves sparkling diamonds in Her wake.
As the silver moon rises across the sky
Blessing us as we gratefully cry.
I often forget about the snow’s beauty and the Spirit’s blessings when I need to drive in the snow. Taking time for prayerful retreat and reflection helps me get back to a better focus. Then I invite the Spirit to melt what may be cold in my heart.
